The Lazy Teacher

 

I am a Lazy teacher but I also want to be efficient. A lazy teacher does not prepare for hours on end. Effective teachers use minimum preparation time for maximum use of time in the class.

A lazy teacher starts with the students. They are the main source of learning material. They have the time, the energy, the creativity and the skill to produce sources.

A lazy teacher is ready to make use of student sources. This makes these sources relevant because they are not only student-centered, but student-chosen.

A lazy teacher uses student-chosen sources because he / she is ready to learn from them and ready to use them for future classes.

A lazy teacher delegates teaching to the student, making maximum use of peer to peer teaching.

A lazy teacher finds time to sit down and fill in necessary documentation or prepare further during the lessons because students are engaged with hands on tasks.

A lazy teacher uses less TT time, gives clear instructions and makes sure that the students know what they are supposed to be doing before the task starts.

A lazy teacher uses technology to orchestrate materials and keep them handy, because a lazy teacher does not like wasting time in libraries.

A lazy teacher does not want to carry books, materials, aids etc. Once again technology comes in handy. In such a way, a lazy teacher is not only efficient but also ecological.

A lazy teacher who puts the students first has no issue with regulations regarding privacy and usable online platforms because these are the tools that the students have chosen. A lazy teacher is more apt to seek permission from parents and authorities or the students themselves rather than give up on a chosen application. In this, the lazy teacher is being more efficient and more practical.

The lazy teacher is not lazy about adapting to student needs and technology. The lazy teacher always stays young at heart but mature in purpose.

A lazy teacher spends time remembering his / her own personal experience at school and at being one with the students.

A lazy teacher is not a subject teacher, but one with a passion to guide, help and inspire students to follow their path.

A lazy teacher understands that education is about role modelling empathy, etiquette, belief in oneself, compromising, making choices and bearing the responsibility of your choices.

A lazy teacher understands and utilises multiple intelligences.

A lazy teacher is prepared to come out of his/ her comfort zone because actual preparation is so minimal that this is an everyday occurrence.

A lazy teacher is one that is so hungry for learning, for new methodologies, for ideas and technology that he / she does not see the preparation time as it goes by.

This means that a lazy teacher is actually always prepared for any eventuality.
